MEALS ON WHEELS

1984 - 40 years ago…

Mrs. Peg Wray has been forced to retire from the position of President, due to ill health so the meeting was chaired by the Vice President, Mrs. Gladys Garnett.
The Meals on Wheels Association continues to grow in strength of purpose, due to its committed band of drivers, still numbering 22.
Withdrawals from Roster are rare, and have only occurred when someone is leaving town or is taking up full-time employment.
During the past 12 months 746 meals have been delivered, with the cost having risen now to $1.40 per meal. The cost is set by the Department of Social Security, who pays a subsidy for each meal.
On behalf of the Committee, Mrs. Garnett expressed her appreciation and thanks to all drivers who share in this venture, to Matron Griffiths and the Hospital Staff who extend to us their expertise and facilities; to Mrs. Heberle and Eleanor Mulcahy who prepare and cook the meals and to Denise Peet, who organises us with such patience.
Our thanks go also to Mr. Bob Morrison, Manager of the National Bank who is our Honoury Auditor, and to the Gnowangerup Star, Radio 6WB Katanning and the Gnowangerup Pharmacy, for their free and vital advertising.

ViI HEBERLE, GLADYS GARNETT & ANNA CARAMIA             #1

Following this meeting, a most pleasant afternoon tea was shared, during which Mrs. Heberle was presented with a gift, with the thanks of the Association for her positive and continued support while in the position of Hospital Cook. We wish her every joy in her retirement.
In presenting flowers to Mrs. Peg Wray, we hoped to express how much her support has meant to the Association since its inception, and how much she will be missed.
A sad note was touched in saying farewell to Mrs. Anna Caramia, which we also tried to do with flowers.
Anna was a founding member of the Meals on Wheels, driving a double shift on the early rosters so that the Association could get on its feet.
She has been a most dedicated driver, and an emergency driver as well. This has meant that on many occasions when she has had to drop her own plans to fill in for someone at the last minute.
We will miss Anna very much and part from her with sorrow.

Elected unopposed to the remaining positions were:
Vice President:  Mrs. Gladys Garnett.
Committee Members:
Mrs. Lyn Bryant, Mrs. Fran Bungey.
Secretary / Treasurer:
 Mrs. Louise Hinds.
